"An exciting new approach to crowdsourcing motorcycle safety"
WHY?
Bikers are often viewed as tough and self-reliant. That's because they have to be to brave the often dangerous realities of motorcycling. But these realities also mean they are the most vulnerable users of public roads along with pedestrians and bicyclists. NHTSA studies indicate that 80% of motorcycle crashes injure or kill a motorcycle rider, as compared to 20% percent of car crashes. Motorcycle riders are eight times more likely to be injured in a crash and 34 times more likely to die than car occupants. Numerous studies indicate that motorcycle accidents with cars are more often than not caused by drivers. A bike's smaller profile and natural cognitive processes have a lot to do with it. Carelessness or an unsympathetic attitude towards bikers have also contributed to injuries and fatalities. So what can we do about it? Turn this attitude on its head by actively encouraging, training and rewarding drivers for being proactive in motorcycle safety, both on and off the road. |
BECOME A GUARDIAN
Whether you ride or drive, have loved ones who are motorcyclists, or are simply a good samaritan concerned about safety, you can proactively help make the roads safer for motorcyclists.
By displaying your Biker Guardians badge and sticker, you raise awareness both on and off the road about taking a proactive role in the safety of our most vulnerable motorists. You're also letting motorcyclists around you know that you've got their back, literally. As the below video shows, this can go a long way. Becoming a Guardian means more than just showing solidarity with bikers. You earn your badge by completing a course on our gamified training app, which includes proactive techniques you can use to help keep motorcyclists safe. This includes responses to the 10 most common dangers bikers face, suggested protocols on helping a biker in trouble, and how you as a driver can safely influence traffic patterns,-and attitudes, to make the roads safer for motorcyclists. Return here periodically for important updates as we continue to develop this important initiative. |

Bikers
Guardians are our allies on the road and are committed to our safety
Show our Guardian friends props and respect
Many Guardians are bikers themselves
Give them a friendly wave on the road or a handshake in person
If you're a biker who drives, you'd make a good Guardian
The more the merrier (and safer), recommend Guardians to another motorist
